How to Remove Sweat Stains from Clothes using Baking Soda

Before you throw away great clothing...

Sweat stains on clothes can be a frustrating and persistent problem, especially when it's your best gear. But fear not, because there is a simple and effective solution: baking soda. In this article, we will provide a step-by-step guide on how to remove sweat stains from clothes using baking soda.

What You Will Need:

  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • A bowl
  • A brush or sponge
  • A washing machine
  • Detergent

Step 1: Make a Baking Soda Solution

In a bowl, mix 1 part baking soda with 2 parts water to create a thick paste. Stir the mixture until the baking soda is fully dissolved.

Step 2: Apply the Solution to the Stain

Using a brush or sponge, apply the baking soda solution directly to the sweat stain. Rub the solution gently into the stain, making sure to cover the entire affected area.

Step 3: Let the Solution Sit

Allow the baking soda solution to sit on the stain for at least 30 minutes. This will give the baking soda time to work its magic and break down the sweat stain.

Step 4: Rinse with Water

Rinse the stain with water to remove any excess baking soda solution.

Step 5: Apply White Vinegar

In a bowl, mix 1 part white vinegar with 2 parts water. Using a brush or sponge, apply the white vinegar solution to the stain. Rub the solution into the stain, making sure to cover the entire affected area.

Step 6: Let the Vinegar Solution Sit

Allow the white vinegar solution to sit on the stain for 10 minutes. This will help to neutralize the baking soda and further break down the sweat stain.

Step 7: Wash the Garment

Wash the garment in the washing machine using regular detergent. Make sure to wash the garment on the hottest setting recommended for the fabric, as this will help to remove any remaining sweat stains.

Step 8: Dry the Garment

Dry the garment as you normally would, either in the dryer or by air-drying.

Or...

Here's the lazy overnight way to do it. Fill enough water in your tub or sink to hold the garment(s). Mix in a healthy amount of baking soda so the water is cloudy. Leave it over night. When you wake up in the morning it will likely be quite dark as the baking soda literally sucks the grossness out of the clothes. We always wash them after on a quick cycle and this works like a charm. You can also do this with hats.
